This is the last video in my Basecamp series that I made this week, where I'm walking through a few features I'd like to touch on that are great features that complement the tools within Basecamp.
This video is 5 of 5, you can watch the others by clicking here.
so welcome again to another episode of
my Basecamp series this is actually a
last one or five that I've been doing
this week and today I want to touch on a
few things that I haven't gone over but
I think they're worth mentioning so
let's just get straight into it so this
is my demo account with Lucy and we know
about the headquarters we know about the
teams and we know about the projects so
if I get into a project I spoke about
all these tools message board project
chats automatic check-in schedule and
documents now what I haven't spoken
about is this button here ping and I'm
going to go through a couple of these
just in case I missed a few so home is
literally just home you just go back to
the to the home page which is this page
I'm going to go back into this project
pings is the thing that I want to speak
about now as you know we have the chat
feature which is called which is
campfire basically I just renamed it to
chance and we have the message board
where we communicate whether it's
internally or externally but now pings
is another way of communicating with an
individual person whereas the chat you
can actually talk to anyone within that
project and and it's all open and it's
it's transparent so everyone can see it
same with the message board it's it's
like a threaded message where you know
everyone sees everything
what pings do and I'll show you here
what pings do is that you can actually
have a private chat with one person so
if I have a private chat with me for
instance I can ping them and then I can
the a chat window basically opens up and
I can say hey what would you like on
sorry like with your
lunch what drink would you like drink
would you like with your lunch now again
this can be about personal stuff it can
be about specific project things but you
don't necessarily need everyone to see
it so you know Lucy's asking me you know
what do I want for lunch and now
basically what this is a direct message
to me to your colleague or collaborator
you can actually if they're in with the
project he can actually spank them that
way as well so it doesn't have to be so
basically company-wide whether they're
external or internal that's the easiest
way to explain it so then your colleague
will get that message but no one else
sees it it's basically a private message
so it's just another level of
communication so you don't have to have
everything open if you don't want to
have it all open so specific
conversations you generally don't need
to so if I now go into my phone my phone
has given me a notification click on the
notification opens up the ping and you
will see water is fine thanks and my
customary emojis and there we go as you
see it so it's it's a real quick simple
way so it again this part of it this
tool is actually a replacement for
things like what's up and I I would just
please don't use what's up for your
business stuff or actually anything
anyway this is a different subject
so pings are effectively a what's up
replacement because it's a one-to-one
thing let's go back to home now the next
thing I think I have touched on this is
hey hey is basically just your
notifications and everything happening
within the notifications oops sorry
wrong button activity here again I did
touch on this but I'll go through it
very quickly it's just every it's like a
bird's eye view of everything next
going on within your business so you can
see all the latest activity you can see
specific person's activity someone
else's assignments - dues for that
project that because we're in this Tim
project in being our client effectively
you can see all the overdue
there's nothing overdue these are the
the tasks that we did in this demo
project and any upcoming dates again
it's just a calendar with yeah upcoming
which is basically the agenda for the
for the project but also the agenda for
you as in your account effectively what
was assigned to you the next thing is my
stuff here now with my stuff again it's
lit it's you know name for like your
stuff so it's all your assignments all
your book my so everything is actually
in one place boost's we haven't touched
on boost is like you know you can give
instead of writing a whole reply you can
actually just give a thumbs up where you
can type a few lines in that boost so
it's kind of like a like button
effectively but it's you can add a few
more bits to it than just the like
effectively again underneath here it's a
recent recently visited is literally
just that you know if where did I go I
went home so I just click it and there I
am now the find feature is really good
in Basecamp
it you can find anything and everything
but that that you have access to
Basecamp white like throughout the whole
account as long as you have access to it
but it also searches and you can also
find things that have been archived and
this is ideal for me anyway so when I
work on a project and I finished project
I archive it because I don't really want
to see it because I'm not working with
that client and again if the client
contacts me I can do a quick search and
it will show me all the archive stuff
and then I can you know quickly an
archive it or just leave it there and
look at the notes so you can actually
find anything so
I think we did something with wolf so if
I just type in wolf you can see
everything that's related to wolf I mean
even this witch Lucy has access to this
account sorry this project tech
minimalism and this person here called
Lucas actually mentioned Wolf's name so
I can actually see everything I can go
to all results and I can see it all in
one place so the find feature is
actually really really clever you can
find you can you know hone it down to
what you want to find by whom that be as
well and whichever project that you have
access to whichever area that you have
accessed it so it's really really
powerful to actually have a fine feature
like this so you can effectively find
anything and everything so let's just go
to Tim's project there you go again
we've been through a lot of these tools
there's no point me going back through
it I just wanted to make this last
episode to just go through those small
features that I didn't touch on in my
last videos hopefully this series really
helped you out again if you need any
help please do reach out to me whether
you need some consulting or training
with Basecamp or if you have any
questions about these videos if I've
missed anything let me know maybe I'll
make another video for you anyway have a
great day actually have a great weekend
it's Friday today and I will see you on
Monday maybe it's another Basecamp video
probably not actually but anyway have a
great weekend and I'll see you then ciao
